I accidentally entered into the entertainment business when i was eight and looking for any excuse to get out of my miserable homelife, i wandered into a community theater audition for the seven year itch. little did i know that the stage was going to be my home for the next 4o years and counting.

it wasn’t until the age of 19 dancing on a logo podium  15 feet off the ground was i then discovered by star maker Bill Aucoin who had helped create acts like KISS and Billy Idol. Bill put me with a band that later became RUReady which after our first show at a Bleeker st nightclub  an audience member walked up and suggested perhaps i should pursue another line of work. Not being one to ever back down from a dare i then spent the next eight years rehearsing five days a week , working two jobs and suffering the grind and cutting my teeth in the downtown performance art scene surrounded by the likes of stephen sprouse, john Sex, Kembra Phaler, moby, and many other characters in the downtown art/rock scene. It was a fantastic time in NewYork to be young and frivolous.

after eight years of hard work i got my first record deal offer from the legendary record industry icon Ahmet Ertegun who then after inviting the band up to his brownstone on the upper west side pulled me into a side room insisting i was going to sign over my publishing to him and by the way how about a Blow Job? Being that i had ethics and morals i was mortified ( now sometimes i think i should’ve done it…lol) anyhow that deal fell to shit as a result.

through the whole period one of the jobs i had was spinning records for this guy Don Hill at the Cat Club where he also gave me a chance to do my live show frequently as a perk for working. i would probably have to say he was the biggest encouragement, inspiration, and mentor  i had ever had still to this day  and without judgement of what my sexual orientation was or what i had done in my past just gave me a venue and a platform to cut my chops in unconditionally and ill forever be grateful to him for that.

don went on to buy the old canal bar , a snooty five minutes ago restaurant in soho. which after a year of sitting around stagnant and on the verge of bankruptcy , my longtime friend Michael schmidt and I started Squeezebox . Squeezebox started as queer rocks roll night but of course became much more than that…..but thats a whole other web site.

then about a year into it when the success of squeezebox was sky rocketing decided to break the monotony and bust out a drag show although drag for me was never a lifestyle like it is for some (I’m definitely not that brave)mores an avenue i could explore and have a place to keep entertaining and a place to satisfy my need to be on a stage..and ok my severe overall need for attention. it just so happened that on the same night i got in drag and did a cover of “Patti smiths’ rock n roll nigger” the people from lollapalooza happened to be in town and were shocked to see a rock n roll tranny stage diving in saran wrap  screaming “baby was a black sheep, baby was a whore”……Awesome. the next day they called me and asked me if id like to come on the tour and host one of the stages. little did i know it was gonna be ten hours a day mountain climbing in platform stripper stilettos . best summer of my whole life.
